Justin McLachlan
Justin is an award-winning journalist and graduate student at West Virginia University. A 2003 graduate of Taylor University in journalism, Justin has
worked for the Herald Standard and its sister television station, HSTV
News 19, just outside of Pittsburgh.
He came to West Virginia in 2005 as a full-time reporter for the Times West Virginian, in Fairmont. Within a few months, he was promoted to the Youth Issues / Education beat, where he exposed failings in the state's Division of Juvenile Services. While at the Times West Virginian, he also reported on the real reasons a brand-new sewer system failed and left Marion county residents living with raw sewage in their yards for over five years.
In 2006, he won a first-place award in the West Virginia Press Associations Better Newspaper's Contest in the columnist division. The sewer system series won a second place award for the paper in the associations' public service category. Currently, in addition to being a full time student, Justin writes the Campus Buzz column in The Dominion Post in Morgantown. He's also a researcher / writer for Sharesleuth.com, Mark Cuban and Chris Carey's investigative business journalism site.
